Terms of service
Guardian is free software you run on your own computer. By installing or using it, you agree to these terms.
1. The software
Guardian is provided by the Guardian project and its contributors. The source code is currently private and shared
with invited users; if it is published, it will be under the license in its repository's LICENSE file.
Where these terms and that license differ about the code itself, the license controls.
2. Your computer, your data, your responsibility
- Guardian runs on your hardware. You are responsible for your computer, its security, and backups of your data.
- You are responsible for any accounts and credentials you connect, such as Google, GitHub or Tailscale, and for keeping your phone pairing code private.
- You must follow the terms of every service Guardian contacts for you, including the Google APIs Terms of Service and the sites and feeds you add.
3. Acceptable use
Don't use Guardian to break the law, access accounts or data you are not authorized to access, overload or scrape services against their rules, or harm others. Guardian's web fetching follows robots.txt and per-site rate limits; don't remove those safeguards to abuse a service.
4. AI output
Guardian's summaries, plans, reflections, answers and code changes are generated by a local AI model and can be wrong, incomplete or out of date. Check important information against its source before relying on it. Changes the model proposes to Guardian itself are only applied after you review and approve them.
5. Not professional advice
- Fitness: the workout program, exercise sketches and suggestions are general information, not medical advice. Talk to a doctor before starting a new training program, and stop any exercise that causes pain.
- Finance: market data and news are for information only. Guardian never places trades and does not give investment, financial, tax or legal advice.
- Health and school: nothing in Guardian replaces a qualified professional, your instructors or your institution's rules.
6. Third-party services and content
News, research, market prices, search results and other content come from third parties. We don't control them and aren't responsible for their accuracy, availability or terms. Links to other sites are provided for convenience.
7. No warranty
Guardian is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don't guarantee it will be error-free, secure or uninterrupted, or that it will keep working with third-party services.
8. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Guardian project and its contributors are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits or goodwill, arising from your use of Guardian. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for Guardian, which is zero.
9. Changes and termination
We may update these terms; the new version will be posted here with a new effective date. You can stop using
Guardian at any time by uninstalling it and deleting your Guardian data folder.
